The Easiest Hike to the Tallest Waterfall! Wine, Ice Cream & The Burrito Quest Continues!

This video takes us to the Finger Lakes of NY. We stayed at the Finger Lakes RV Resort in Hector and it was a convenient drive to all the area has to offer. Today is a recap of our first day there – Troy starts his day continuing his search for the ultimate breakfast burrito as we stop at the Creekside Cafe in Trumansburg. He looked to return before we left the area but was disappointed to find out they are only open on the weekends! Will have to try again next time!

We then followed that breakfast up with a short hike to Taughannock Falls. It is the tallest waterfall east of the Rockies (yes – that includes Niagara Falls!) at 215 ft. This is a beautiful state park with hiking trails, picnic areas and boating. And Desi loved that it was easy for him to come along!

Next up we headed to one of ouur favorite wineries in the area – Castel Grisch. We harvest hosted here a few years ago and “walked among the dinosaurs”. Well this time we were surprised by all of the curious creatures that have been added! The winery puts on a light show in the winter and all of these are lit up. We hope to get back someday to see them on display!

We followed up that wine tasting with a 30 minute drive up to The Spotted Duck in Pen Yann. We heard it was some of the best in the area and it did not disappoint! They had picnic benches, a peacock(!) and ducks. Plus you can try all the flavors (they do change) with an ice cream flight. We chose 8 different ones and they were all good!

And although we thought we were done for the day, we decided to try the winery adjacent to the RV park – Red Newt Cellars. They serve light fare during the week but as this was Friday – Troy got to try their grilled cheese meatloaf. Wow! The waiter warned us laughingly and he was right – we had take some of that back to the camper. But that will be one of those meals that we measure all other meatloafs by!

After going back to the camper for a bit to rest, we decided to take some off road drives through the area. We were not expecting to see so much wildlife (although we only got video of the deer, we often saw skunks, turkeys and huge groundhogs as well) and the drive was always so peaceful in the woods.

If you have never been in the area – we highly recommend. It is an easy drive for us from NC and this won’t be our last trip!

Thanks for watching and happy camping!
