Here’s a terrific wine for transitioning into fall, a white from the Italian Collio Goriziano wine appellation.

Collio, as it’s usually called, is situated in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy, bordering Slovenia. Here you will find a cool Alpine climate that allows the production of some of Italy’s most complex Pinot Grigio.

Many people think of Pinot Grigio as an inexpensive, mass-produced wine of dubious quality, however, when the label says Collio, you can be assured you’re getting one of Italy’s best white wines. And when it comes from a highly-regarded, organic winery like Gradis’ciutta, you can be even more certain.

Gradis’ciutta’s 2017 Pinot Grigio has evolved into an eye-catching, golden-hued wine. However, it’s the aromas, tastes and texture that you will remember long after it is gone: racy and crisp, medium to full-bodied; notes of green apple, pear, lemon and honey, with a distinct mineral quality.

Who would’ve thought Pinot Grigio would still taste good after five years in the bottle? Clearly, this one has stood the test of time. Enjoy it with roast chicken, pasta salads and all kinds of seafood, including sushi and smoked fish.

Bon Appétit!
